    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "F. Stetzenmeyer, Rochester, N.Y."

     

    This is the mark of Frederick Stetzenmeyer who ran his pottery in Rochester from 1849 to about 1860 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty sports a Semi-Ovoid Form, the Stetzenmeyer Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number 2, and a Bright Floral Executed with a Slip Cup.  The floral has five leaves and a blossom poised on a dotted stem.  All the decoration is accented with stripes for a 3-D effect.  Stands 15" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition. Some staining at the bottom.  That's it!  No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Three kiln touches around the middle in the making, including one in the tip of the far right leaf.  Some bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
