Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "F. Stetzenmeyer, Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of Frederick Stetzenmeyer who ran his pottery in Rochester from 1849 to about 1860 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Semi-Ovoid Form, the Stetzenmeyer Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number 2, and a Bright Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has three leaves and a blossom with four petals. All the decoration is accented with stripes for a 3-D effect. Exceptional design and visual impact. Stands 14" tall.
Good Condition. A hairline on the bottom of the left side coming up 1 3/4" and right 2" and left 3" (closeup 1). A hairline on the bottom of the right side coming up and to the right to the back 6" (closeup 2). Otherwise as made.
