Item 9278
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Advertising Canteen that reads, "Geo. Walther, Glassware & Bar Supplies, 178 Ontario St., Cleveland, O."
Dating between 1890 and 1907, this beauty was made by the Whites of Utica N. Y. Pottery and is a wonderful example of the skill that Whites attained in molded stoneware, as well as the geographical reach of the company's business.
The canteen features an embossed Drinking Scene with Three Men Imbibing Around a Barrel in a Wine Cellar. The scene has a beaded border with the company advertising stamped above. Leaves adorn the sides. Retains its original handle. Stands 7 1/2" tall.
You can see similar examples in Christopher Bensch, The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware , p. 26.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Typical manufacturing imperfections.
