Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug Made and Stamped by "Goodwin & Webster."
This is the work of Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster who ran the pottery in Hartford from 1831-1840 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Reeded Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Cobalt Accent at the Bottom Handle Terminal. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A shallow 3/8" chip on each side of the spout, a 1/2" chip on the left shoulder, four narrow chips on the bottom edge (1/4" to 2 1/2"), a couple stains, and a thin layer of molasses in the bottom. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A few scattered stone pings and a 3" firing line along the base in the making (closeup).
