Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Goodwin & Webster, Hartford."
This is the work of Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster who ran the pottery in Hartford, Connecticut from 1831-1840 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Straight Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles Near the Top with Cobalt Accent, and the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash. Stands 12 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. An X-shaped hairline on the back bottom that partially shows inside (closeup 1), and some light staining from use. No chips, cracks, or restoration. A 3" drying or firing line from the rim in front of the left handle in the making and glazed over (closeup 2).
