Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made for "H. C. Ward, Stoneware Depot, Zanesville, O."
Hudson Chaplin Ward was a stoneware distributor in the 1860's to 1880's (Jim Murphy's Checklist of 19th-Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingham County, Ohio, pp. 408-411).
Dating to the 1880's, this beauty features a Large Capacity Number and the Company Name, Product, and Address in 4 Lines of Stenciled Cobalt Advertising. Don't you just love the title, "Stoneware Depot!" Measures 9 1/2" tall and wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
