Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made for "H. C. Ward, Stoneware Depot, Zanesville, O."
Hudson Chaplin Ward was a stoneware distributor in the 1860's to 1880's (Jim Murphy's Checklist of 19th-Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingham County, Ohio, pp. 408-411).
Dating to the 1880's, this beauty features a Large Capacity Number and the Company Name, Product, and Address in 4 Lines of Stenciled Cobalt Advertising. Don't you just love the title, "Stoneware Depot!" Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3" horizontal hairline at the base that wraps under 4" (closeups). No outer chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
