Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare Wax Sealer Canning Jar made for "H. L. Van Matre & Co., Dry Goods and Groceries, Queen's and Stoneware. Ravenswood, W. WV."
It was commissioned from a pottery in SW Pennsylvania at either Greensboro or New Geneva.
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Tooled Grooved Wax Sealer Rim, and Elaborate Six Lines of Advertising Below a Garland of Tulips. The stenciling is crisp, strong, and contrasts well with the warm gray glaze. Stands 8 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three small continguous chips inside the inner rim (1/8" to 3/16") and a 1/2" chip on top of the outer rim. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
