Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Churn made by Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, PA from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Churn Form with Interior Rim for the Lid, and Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are two straight stripes accenting the rim, a wavy stripe on the shoulder, the company advertising surrounding a floral with center six-pointed star in the middle, and the capacity number flanked by leaves and stripe at the bottom. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition with some restoration. Restoration for a hairline right at the base running from the middle of the back to the middle of the front. Some staining. Otherwise as made.
