Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."

James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).

Circa 1880, this beauty features a Large Size and Top to Bottom Decoration.  From the top down, two straight and a wavy stripe accent the rim, a garland of tulips grace the shoulder, the company advertising surrounding a floral and framed by leaves on the sides and roses on the bottom corners dress up the middle, and the capacity number flanked by leaves and underscored by a stripe finishes the embellishment at the bottom.  Crisp decoration, and strong cobalt on a light gray clay for delightful contrast.  Stands 16" tall.

Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the left handle and a 1/2" chip on the right handle.  That's it!  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A narrow 1" chip on the left handle and some mottling on the left front rim are in the making.
