Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this majestic 8 Gallon Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA ."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, PA from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are two straight stripes framing the rim, a wavy stripe adorning the shoulder, undulating vining sweeping across the top, the company advertising in the middle framing a central floral and framed on the top by flowers and on the bottom by daisies, and the capacity number framed by leaves and another straight stripe at the bottom. All the decoration is in dark cobalt and crisp on a medium gray glaze for strong contrast. Stands 20" tall.
