Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 16 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Large Size and Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are two straight stripes framing the rim, a large band of fuchsia vining outlined top and bottom by wavy stripes on the shoulder, the company advertisng accented by leaves and enclosed on the sides by graduated dashes in the middle, and two wavy stripes framing the capacity number accompanied on either side by large leaves and underscored by a straight stripe at the bottom. Strong, crisp decoration. Stands 24" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1" chips reglued on the left handle (closeup). Otherwise as made!
