    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."

     

    This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).

     

    Circa 1870, this beauty features from top to bottom:  A straight and wavy stripe, freehand vining, the company advertising, a freehand capacity number flanked by three dashes on each side, and a bottom stripe. Light gray coloration for a fine contrast with the cobalt.  Stands 14 3/4" tall.  

     

    Good Condition. Some light staining from use and a faint hairline on the front left from below the shoulder to near the base (closeup).  No chips, cracks, or restoration. The rim is wavy rim and out of round in the making.
