    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made by "Hamilton and Jones, Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."

     

    This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).

     

    Circa 1870, this beauty features a More Uncommon Churn Form and Top to Bottom Decoration.  From the top down are a straight stripe at the rim, a wavy stripe at the shoulder, the company advertising surrounding a rose and accented by tulips in the upper corners in the middle, and the capacity number flanked by leaves and underscored by a stripe at the bottom.  All the stenciling is crisp.  Stands 17" tall. 

     

    Excellent Condition.  Some scattered light staining from use.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A 1" drying/firing line inside the rim that show outside in the making (closeups).
