Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones, Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Large Size, Two Straight and a Wavy Stripe at the Top, the Company Advertising in an Arch Surrounding Fancy Frilly Florals in the Middle, and the Capactiy Number Flanked by Leaves and Underscored with a Stripe at the Bottom. Crisp and complete stenciling and dark cobalt. Stands 16" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some water glass staining inside and some traces outside, light surface wear, a couple 3/4" chips under the rim in the back, and a few nibbles on the bottom ring of the tooled rim. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
