Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Wax Sealer made by Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Groove in the Rim for Pouring Hot Wax into to Cap and Seal the Fruit Inside, Canted Sides, and a Crisp and Complete Stencil that contrasts nicely with the light gray clay. The company advertising surrounds a sideways tulip, and is framed on the top corners by tulips and the bottom edge by leaves and a diamond. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the inner rim and a 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No oute rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
An exceptionally clean example.
