Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Haxstun & Co., Fort Edward, N.Y."

This is the work of Andrew K. Haxstun who ran a pottery in Fort Edward from 1875 to 1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird Poised on a Branch Decoration.  The larger size jar allowed the artist to make a larger than usual rendering of this beloved bird!  Stands 12 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Two 1/4" chips inside the rim, a faint surface Y-shaped craze line below the decoration (closeup 1), and some light staining on the right side.  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A 1" drying/firing line on the left side at the bottom in the making (closeup 2).
