Item 9115
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug stamped "Ithaca, N.Y."
This is surely the mark of the potter James Macumber who ran the pottery in Ithaca with several partners from 1864-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
Circa 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Fancy Leaf drawn with a Slip Cup in Bright Cobalt. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3" surface craze line below the spout on the left side (closeup) and some light staining on the right side. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The shallow chip on the spout on the right side toward the back is from separation in the kiln in the making. Kiln touch on the front bottom also in the making.
