Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 2 Gallon Jar made for the merchant, "J. A. Franz, Groceries & Liquors, Head of Steamboat Landing, Pomroy, Ohio."
This jar was made in Southwestern Pennsylvania, most likely at New Geneva or Greensboro.
Circa 1880, this jar features a Straight and Wavy Stripe at the Top and a Straight Stripe at the Bottom that Frame Five Lines of Crisp Advertising and the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves. A wonderful view into history. Stands 12" tall.
Excellent Condition. Very minor nibbles on the bottom ridge of the tooled rim. That's it! No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A piece of stray clay on the back in the making as shown.
