Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and an Large Flower created with a Slip Cup. The flower has 2 fern-like leaves and a triangular blossom with rounded edges that encases the 3 capacity number. Dark cobalt. Measures 9 3/4" tall adn 11" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside with some traces outside. Two chips on the back of the rim (1/2", 1 1/2"), and a 5" hairline from the rim in the back (closeup). No inner rim or base chips, or restoration. A 2" surface drying line inside in the making.
