    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."

     

    This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty features the Oval Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand "3" Capacity Number, and Tulip in Bright Cobalt.  The tulip has four leaves with accents created by a slip cup, and a blossom with seven petals created with a brush.  Stands 15 1/4" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  A 1/8" chip on the spout.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Surface craze lines from firing on the back shoulder and handle in the making (closeup).
