Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful and uncommon Half Gallon Wax Sealer Canning Jar made by "J. E. Eneix, New Geneva, PA. "
This is the mark of James Eneix who made stoneware in New Geneva for the brief period of 1874-1876 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 165). Eneix stoneware is not commonly seen due to the brief period of manufacture.
This beauty features the Wax Sealer Form, Canted Sides, and Company Advertising in a Paisley Shape Surrounding a Tobacco Leaf. All the decoration is complete and executed in bold and dark cobalt blue. Stands 7 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Four flat, minor flakes on the outside of the rim (1/8" to 1/4"). That's it! No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. In the making: some glaze skips that look like chips inside the rim, and a 1" drying line on the bottom edge (closeup).
