Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and an Elaborate Flower Executed with a Slip Cup in Brilliant Cobalt. Stands 11 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the spout, a shallow 1/2" flake outside the spout, a 3/4" shallow chip on the right side of the handle, and a 3/4" chip at the base. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Typical manufacturing imperfections.
