Item 8464
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Branch Executed with a Slip Cup. The cobalt is dark and shiny like we have come to expect from Bennington stoneware. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/8" nibbles and two 1/4" chips at the spout, and some minor wear on the tailfeathers. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
