Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Cobalt Blue. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two small chips inside the spout 3/16", 1/4"), and a shallow 1/2" chip on the bottom edge. That's it! No outer spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
