Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Floral Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt! A large center blossom is cradled by an abundance of leaves, buds, tentrils and dots. A wonderful example of this decoration. Stands 11 3/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple 1/8" nibbles inside the rim, and two minor chips on the right handle (1/8", 1/4"). That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Exceptionally clean.
