Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Decorated Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Floral Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt! A large blossom is cradled by an abundance of leaves, buds, tentrils and dots. A wonderful example of this decoration. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A kiln touch and 1/2" chip on the bottom of the left side and a kiln touch and recess and 1" chip on the center of the right side. A 1/2" surface ping on the back at the bottom and some very light staining. No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
