Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton and his cousin Edward Norton who worked together in the family pottery from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the a Larger 4 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Signature Norton Decoration--a Bright Cobalt Floral Bouquet. The floral was executed with a slip cup and moves from left to right across the front. Stands 16 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A flat 3/8" chip on top and minor nibbles around the spout, a 3/4" chip on the left side at the base, and some staining on the lower half. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
