Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Floral Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt! An abundance of leaves, both straight and curvy, support two large "eye" blossoms crowned with a feathery plume. Thick, dark, and shiny cobalt too! A wonderful example of this decoration. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor nibbling on the left side of the spout, nibble on the shoulder, and a Y-shaped hairline confined to the underside as shown. That's it! No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
