Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "J. M. Harden, Palatine, W.V."
Harden made pottery in Palatine, West Virginia (Now Fairmont) around 1880. His stoneware is not commonly seen on the market.
This beauty is at the top end for Harden Stoneware. It features a Tooled Rim with Wide Cobalt Stripe, Applied Handles with Generous Cobalt Accents at the Terminals, a Stenciled Grapevine with Leaves and Two Clusters of Grapes, an Intricate Stencil with the Company Name and Address Surrounded by Delicate Vining, the Capacity Number and a Broad Cobalt Stripe at the Bottom. Light gray glaze and strong cobalt make for the most eye-appealing presentation. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some light staining from use. A fine 9" vertical in-body hairline on the front left from just above the grapevine down to the left of the company name and just below it (light line in the closeup). No chips, cracks, or restoration.
