Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "J. M. Hickerson, Strasburg, VA."
This crock was made by James M. Hickerson who ran his pottery in Strasburg, Virginia from 1884-1898 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 298-301).
This beauty features a Wide Tooled Rim with Groove to Facilitate Tying a Cover Over the Top, Pottery Stamp, and Two Brushed Cobalt Florals Around the Middle. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the rim, four 1/4" flakes around the base, and light staining from use. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A salt drip on the front from the kiln in the making.
