Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. Mantell, Penn Yan."
This is the work of James Mantell who potted in Penn Yan, New York from 1856-1876 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Beehive Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip. The tulip has four leaves and a blossom with ten petals. Bright cobalt used throughout. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/4" flakes inside the spout and some staining on the back. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
