Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. Mantell, Penn Yan."
This is the work of James Mantell who potted in Penn Yan, New York from 1856-1876 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72) .
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Beehive Shape, Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Floral with Flowerpot at the Bottom, Stem with 5 Leaves in the Middle, and Two Blossoms Spanning the Shoulder. Brilliant cobalt throughout the decoration. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Light staining on the shoulder on the right side. Otherwise as made!
