Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The blue is as good as it gets! Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A tiny 1/8" nibble below the bird and some light staining near the bottom.
That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
