Item 7239
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this cute 1 gallon stoneware jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton, his son Luman, and his cousin Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42, 44).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bluebird Proudly Poised on a Branch. Rich and shiny cobalt like we expect from the Norton factory. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the handle, and a couple isolated small and light stains. That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping in the making.
A cute little bluebird on a cute little jug from Vermont!
