    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Monumental 6 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."   

     

    This is the work of Julius Norton, his son Luman, and his cousin Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42, 44).  

    This beauty features a Large 6 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Spectacular Floral Bouquet in an Urn Decoration! The urn boasts ribbed sides, handles, and pedestal base.  It holds an exquisite floral with leaves, tendrils, buds, and blossoms moving in all directions.  Bold and shiny cobalt too.  The decoration alone is 13 1/2" tall 13" wide.   Stands 19 1/2" tall.

     

    Exceptional Condition.  A single 1/8" nibble inside the spout.  That's it!  Otherwide as made.   A firing line halfway across the base of the handle in the making and glazed over (closeup). 

     

    The largest Norton Jug with an Urn Decoration most of us in the business have ever seen.
