    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.

     

    This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).

     

    This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The blue is as good as it gets!  Stands 11 1/2" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Minor glaze wear on the right side. That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A rub in the clay by the bird's tail in the making.
