Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Lovely 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The blue is as good as it gets! Stands 11" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some modest glaze wear. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
