Item 10642
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The blue is as good as it gets! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some scattered, small light stains. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The spout leans slightly to the right, some light surface scratches, and two small clay voids where the straw burned away (1/4", 3/8")-- all in the firing.
