Item 10497
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Bird on a Branch Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The design is skillful and the blue is as good as it gets! Stands 13 1/2" tall. A 3/4" stone ping on the back near the bottom in the making.
Excellent Condition. A fine hairline confined to the spout (closeup). That's it! No base chips, body hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. What look like a couple hairlines near the base are scratches in the wet clay in the making.
