Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 3 Gallon Jar made for the merchant, "J. W. Robison, 716 Market St., Wheeling, W. VA."
Robison had this jar made in Southwestern Pennsylvania, probably by James Hamilton or Hamilton and Jones.
Circa 1880, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are two stripes accenting the rim, freehand vining cascading across the shoulder, the company advertising emblazoned on the middle, and a freehand "3" capacity number flanked by three dashes and underscored by a stripe capping the decoration at the bottom. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip under the right handle, and a crack from the rim in the back coming down 4" and then trailing off to the left 4" (closeup). No rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
