Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this marvelous 3 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "J. Weaver."
This is the work of John Weaver who made stoneware in Beaver, Pennsylvania from the late 1840's to about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 113).
Dating around 1850, this beauty features a Bulbous Form, Thick Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Brushed Cobalt Vining with Tulips Buds and Blossoms Across the Front, and Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals. The vine has four buds and one full blossom. Stands 12 1/4" tall.
