    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this marvelous 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Weaver."

     

    This is the work of John Weaver who made stoneware in Beaver, Pennsylvania from the late 1840's to about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 113).

     

    Dating around 1850, this beauty features a Large Size, Thick Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Tapered Sides, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Unusual Brushed Cobalt Vine Across the Front.  The vine has five units centered on a row of oval dots.  Measures 15 1/2" tall and 12 1/2" wide across the top.  

     

    Good Condition. Two tight hairlines from the rim: 4 1/2" behind the right handle (closeup 1) and 9" in the back (closeup 2).  A 3" chip on the rim in front of the right handle, and four small chips on the underside at the edge (1/2" to 1").  No inner rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A few surface firing lines at the base in the making (closeup 3).  A shallow drying/firing line and slightly convex on the underside in the making.
