Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped by "Jacob Caire & Co, Po'keepsie."
This is the mark of Jacob Caire who ran his father's (John Caire) second pottery in Poughkeepsie from 1845 to 1853 when it closed (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 65).
This beauty features the early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Cobalt Triple Tulip Decoration. The cobalt is rich and heavily applied. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Fair Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim. A tight crack from the base to the right blossom and left through the base of the center blossom (closeup). No rim or base chips, stains, or restoration. Stone ping below the decoration in the making. Displays well.
