    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 3 Gallon Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."   

     

    James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157). 

     

    Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, Top and Bottom Wide Stripes, and the Company Advertising in Bold Letters Surrounding a Center Rose and Framed by Leaves at the top and a Row of Circles Below, with the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves at the Bottom.  Stands 13 1/2" 

     

    Good Condition.  A 3/4" chip on the right handle (closeup 1), a faint 6" vertical hairline from below the m in Hamilton to the leaf to the left of the capacity number (closeup 2), and a faint Y surface line on the bottom.  No rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.  Slightly out of round in the making.
