Item 10938
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Cobalt Stripe; Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents; the Company Advertising in the Middle Surrounding a Rose and Rosebuds and Accented by Small Leaves and Blossoms; and the Capacity Number Flanked by Florals and Underscored by a Broad Stripe at the Bottom. Great contrast between the cobalt and the light gray coloration. Stands 13 1/2" Tall.
Excellent Condition. Some water glass staining inside, and a 1/2" chip inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The right handle is partially missing from the original firing. (The surface of the jar is glazed which it would not be if the handle chipped after firing).
