Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Churn made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with Lid Seating Ledge inside for a Churn Guide, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, Broad Top Stripe at the Rim, Bell Flowers Dangling on the Shoulder, the Company Advertising in the Middle, Stenciled Capacity Number Flanked by Stripes Below, and a Stripe at the Bottom. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside on the lid seating ledge, and a 1/2" ping on the front rim and 1/2" chip on the Bottom Fold of the Tooled Rim (both in the closeup). Otherwise, as made! The groove in the top of the rim in the back is in the making.
