    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Jug made by "John Brickner, No. 221 Washington St., Albany." 

     

    This is the work of John Brickner who made pottery in Albany, N.Y. using this stamp from 1840 to 1844 (cf. Warren Broderick and William Bouck, Pottery Works: Potteries of New York State's Capital District and Upper Hudson Region, pp. 52-54. 

     

    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Ribbon with Two Center Dangling Tulips.  Stands 10 3/4" tall.

     

    Good Condition.  A 1/4" chip on the spout, a narrow 1/4" spot on the right portion of the decoration that may be a filled hole or imperfection in the making (closeup 1), a half dozen chips on the underside near the edge, and overall light staining.  No hairlines or cracks.  Impurities in the clay on the left side in the making (closeup 2).
