Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "3", and a Elaborate Open Tulip Decoration.  The tulip is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt blue and is composed of five base leaves and a blossom with five petals.  All the decoration is accented with fine lines.  Measures 10 1/2" tall and 11" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  Some waterglass rings inside, a 1" hairline from the rim to the top of the left handle (closeup 1), and a y-shaped surface craze line to the right of the decoration (closep 2).   No rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some scratch marks to the left of the decoration made when the clay was wet.
