Item 10383
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."
This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery in Rochester, NY using this stamp and ran the pottery from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "3", and a Delicate Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral boasts five accented leaves, center striped tendril, and a blossom with alternating striped and dotted petals culminating with seven distinct stamin. The floral is not one I recall seeing very often. Stands 16 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 5/8" chip on the right side of the spout, and three 3/8" chips on the bottom edge. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
